Carysfort National School was established by the Sisters of Mercy in 1895.  The school is situated on Convent Road, Blackrock close to the UCD Business College.  It is fully recognised as a primary school by the Department of Education and Skills and is supervised and supported by a Board of Management.

Under the terms of the Education Act 1998, the school Board of Management is comprised of two representatives of the patron, two members of staff, including the Principal, two parents' representatives and two members of the local community.  Mrs. Rita McAlinden is the school Principal.

The school is Roman Catholic and subscribes to the following Mission Statement upon which all school activities are based.
