7th March 2016 Newsletter to parents

7th March 2016

Dear Parents,

Seachtain na Gaeilge will be celebrated in Carysfort from Wednesday 9th – Wednesday 16th March. 3rd – 6th class children designed posters ‘as gaeilge’ which will be displayed on the windows of almost every shop in Blackrock over the next few days. As well as having many ‘in class’ events a number of school events have been organised.  Irish dancing teacher Ms. Joanne McDonnell has kindly offered to teach the Infant classes an Irish dance or two! The drama teacher Ms. Ciara Phelan is taking 5th and 6th classes for a workshop based on the theme of 1916. St Augustine’s school Bodhrán Group will be performing in Carysfort on Thursday morning. The annual 6th class ‘seó faisean as gaeilge’ will take place on Friday. The school ‘banna ceoil’, Irish dancers and singers will be performing for all classes on Monday and Tuesday next. Tuesday, 15th March is Proclamation Day. We will have two flag raising ceremonies, one for the junior classes and one for the senior classes.

Wednesday 16th March will be ‘Lá Glas’ and the children may all dress up. This is a fun day and there will be no charge. Saint Patrick’s Day Goal badges will be on sale in the office at a cost of €2.00 during the week.

Please join us in encouraging your child to use their ‘cúpla focail’ this week. Is fearr Gaeilge bhriste ná Béarla cliste i rith Seachtain na Gaeilge!  A booklet entitled “Labhair Gaeilge Linn” is available on the school website under ‘resources’ should you wish to view it.

Please return all Trócaire boxes to the school for collection on Monday 14th March.

Finally the school will close at 12 noon on Wednesday 16th March for the Easter holidays and will reopen at 8.50 am on Monday 4th April 2016.

Wishing you all a very enjoyable St Patrick’s Day and Easter break.

Le gach dea mhéin

Norma Linehan
