Updated: Foothpath widening: Drop Off & Collection

6th September 2016
Dear Parents,

Many thanks for your cooperation with entering and exiting the school through the junior playground. We will continue to use this entrance for the duration of the footpath widening project.

From tomorrow, Wednesday September 7th we will be reducing our staff presence at both gates at drop off and pick up times so please make sure that your school child and younger siblings in particular are supervised by you at all times while in the junior yard so that no child runs out onto Convent Road on their own.

The two supervised crossing points on Convent Road will continue until the end of the works. Again I ask you in the interest of safety to only cross the road at the supervised crossings. Finally we will continue to leave bikes and scooters at home unless they are an essential mode of transport. My apologies also to the dog owners but under health and safety we cannot permit dogs into the junior yard.
I will update you all again as soon as I have a completion date for the footpath widening project.
Kind regards,
Norma Linehan
Principal

As many of you are aware the Convent Road footpath widening project has been ongoing since mid-July. Unfortunately, this project will not be finished  for another two to three weeks. While Convent Road will remain open and traffic will continue to travel in both directions please understand that there will be little or no parking or drop off options on Convent  Road. Walking adjacent to the footpath widening works will be strictly forbidden. We encourage you to drop the older children within walking distance from Convent Road and to leave available parking for parents of the younger children.

To ensure safe access to the school grounds at drop off and pick up times the children will enter and exit the school through the two gates leading from the junior playground onto Convent Road. Each morning all classes will line up in the junior yard and at home time the teachers will bring their classes to the junior yard for pick up. Our school wardens Patricia and Alice will still be present at their usual junctions. All children coming from Carysfort Avenue will walk up Convent Road on the footpath opposite the school. The contractor on site will provide two supervised crossing points for children, parents and minders on Convent Road outside each junior playground gate at all drop off and pick up times.

PRAMS & BUGGIES: Unfortunately, there are steps up into the junior playground so parents and minders who will have prams or buggies are welcome to enter the school grounds at the main gate pedestrian entrance and we will direct you through the school to the junior playground.

BIKES & SCOOTERS: We request that all the younger children leave their bikes and scooters at home for these few weeks while we are entering / exiting through the junior yard. We ask also that the older children only cycle where essential and they must walk their bikes in the main gate pedestrian entrance.

WET MORNINGS: On wet mornings we will continue to enter through the infant playground from 8.30am and staff will be available to direct the children to the school hall.

DOGS: Finally, we request that dogs are not brought to school for these few weeks while we are entering and exiting through the junior playground.
