10th October 2016

Dear Parents,

I hope you are all well settled into your school routine by now and are looking forward to an enjoyable year ahead.

September 13th 2016 marked the 100th anniversary since the birth of Roald Dahl, ‘the world’s best storyteller’. To commemorate the occasion, the children have been enjoying our Roald Dahl ‘festival’ over the past few weeks. Each class participated in a drama workshop with drama teacher Ciara Phelan and completed an art project with art teacher Michael Cleary. All the art projects are on display in the school hall, so please drop in and admire! A special thank you to Roald Dahl expert Mr. Ryan Tubridy for visiting Carysfort and sharing stories of his visit with Roald Dahl. A special thank you to the parents’ association for funding this project.

We are having a Whole School Evaluation (WSE) by the Inspectorate of the Department of Education and Skills during the week of October 17th. Parent questionnaires are included as part of the process so I will be sending home a questionnaire today to a minimum of one class at each grade level for completion. Please return the completed form by Wednesday, October 12th in its sealed envelope for collection by the inspectors.

A very successful cake sale and coffee morning took place on Thursday last and over €3,500 was raised for the school. A special thank you to Marion Fenton and Maud Mainfray for organising this event, to Starbucks for donating and serving the coffee and to all the parents who baked and volunteered on the day. The Parents’ Association A.G.M takes place on Monday, October 24th @8pm in the school hall. I encourage as many of you as possible to attend and show your appreciation to the members of the P.A. who have worked exceptionally hard over the past year on your behalf.

The new Primary Language Curriculum in English and Irish is being introduced in all primary schools this year. The school will be closed on Wednesday, December 7th 2016 for a training day for the teachers. The parents’ association childcare working group are investigating the possibility of a camp being run at the school on that date to facilitate working parents.

Dates for your diary:

Parent/Teacher Meetings will take place on Wednesday 23rd and Thursday 24th November 2016. Meetings will begin at 2.45pm each day.

Please check the calendar on the school website for all other dates. A special thank you to Carysfort parent Michelle McGuire for developing and managing our new school website.

Finally, a big thank you to everyone for their cooperation and support during the footpath- widening project, which we hope will be finished in another week. Once completed, we will return to using the school main entrance for entry and exit each day.

Le dea-mhéin,

Norma Linehan
