Principal’s Newsletter January 2020

9th January 2020

Dear Parents,

Wishing you all a very happy 2020 and every good wish for the term ahead. I would like to bring to your attention our safety reminders.

When the bell rings at 8:50am. and the children join their class lines please remember to adhere to school policy and stand behind the class lines. This allows the teachers and classroom assistants to walk down their class lines and engage with their students before they proceed to their classrooms.

Secondly, while we fully understand that the children enjoy walking their dogs to and from school please ensure that the dogs are supervised by an adult at all times while on the school grounds. For hygiene reasons dogs must never be on the new all-weather playground. We ask also that you are mindful that we have students who are nervous of dogs and several with allergies to dog hair so please keep the family pet safely back from the class lines.

Parking in a legal space in the vicinity of the school is mandatory in the interest of the safety of all members of the school community and shows respect to our neighbouring residents. We encourage as many families as possible to continue to walk, scoot, cycle and park ‘n stride to school. The children fully understand that walking on the footpath is the safest route when entering and leaving the school main gate. Therefore, it is imperative that parents and minders never walk a child through the staff carpark.

I remind everyone that we have a Healthy Eating Policy and that we are a nut free environment due to the number of children with serious allergies attending the school. Therefore, as well as a healthy school lunch we would appreciate if the children were given healthy nut free snacks only to eat at their afterschool activities.

Our Insurance Company has requested that the following information is brought to your attention. “The school opens to receive pupils at 8.50 a.m. No responsibility is accepted for pupils arriving before that time (except on wet mornings). Classes will end at 2.30 p.m. (1.30 p.m. for Infants). The designated person should be at the school no later than 2.30 p.m. (1.30pm for Infants) as the school cannot accept responsibility for looking after the pupils after that time.” On wet mornings the ramp door to the hall and the doors close to the Avoca pedestrian entrance will open at 8.30 a.m. The school staff have very kindly volunteered to supervise the students in the hall and in their classrooms until class begins at 8.50a.m.

In the morning the school doors are closed once the children have been collected from the school grounds and should never be reopened from the inside by a parent or minder. Late arrivals should always enter and exit the school by the front door. If you have reason to enter the school building during the school day always call to Tara in the office first before proceeding to a classroom.

I ask that you bring the contents of this email to the attention of your child’s minder so that they are following the correct safety procedures on your behalf.
Thanking you in advance for your co-operation and assistance with ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all our students.

Le gach dea-mhéin,

Norma Linehan
